asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the castle in Enniscorthy, which is in good condition, would be very suitable for housing the employment exchange, the home assistance and old age pensions offices, and the offices of other Government Departments at present situated throughout the town; and, if so, if he will consider the propriety of acquiring it for this purpose.

The question of acquiring Enniscorthy Castle with a view to having it adapted for use by Government Departments with offices in the town was carefully examined some time ago and it was decided not to acquire the property. It is not intended to alter that decision.
Arising out of the reply is the Minister aware that the Government has a lot of offices in Enniscorthy at the moment scattered about the town for which they are paying big rents while this lovely building with 14 rooms and central heating is unoccupied? It is too big for the Wexford County Council and I thought the Government might come to the ratepayers' rescue because a lot of talk is heard at the moment about the preserving of derelict castles and other buildings.
That sounds very much like a speech.
That will probably be the next they will sell after Tulyar.
