The schemes submitted by the Donegal County Council to absorb this year's tourist road grant of £55,000 did not include the project referred to by the Deputy. The schemes submitted have been approved by me and the grant has been allocated accordingly.
Would the Minister be prepared to receive from the county council, the elected representatives, their proposals rather than those submitted by the county engineer, in many cases without any reference to the elected representatives?
I am afraid that is not my business. The Deputy is aware of the executive and reserved functions of the council. I understand this is an executive function and I am afraid I cannot intervene, much as I would like to, but I certainly would be prepared to receive a deputation from the Donegal County Council at any time; it is almost a pleasure to receive them.
With what objects in view?
I would receive a deputation of decent representatives of any county council, such as the representatives of the Donegal County Council are.
asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider allocating in the current year a special Fíor-Ghaeltacht road grant for the repair of the Eel Burn-Tonlane-Cashel-Ladden road, and the Ballynacrick-Chapel road, both of which are situated in the Fanad Fíor-Ghaeltacht, County Donegal.
I would refer the Deputy to my reply of the 26th October to his previous question in regard to the allocation of grants for 1955-56 for road works in the Fíor-Ghaeltacht areas. I am not yet in a position to indicate the particular works for which grants may be allocated.
May I ask whether or not the proposals outlined in this question are contained in those which the Minister has received?
I am not really in a position to say that because I am not in a position to allocate the funds yet.
Has the Minister any idea when these allocations will be made?
At the usual time at which the allocations are made every year.
When is that?
I think it is at the end of the year.
