Vol. 153 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Companies Office Staff Accommodation.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange to have a special inspection made of the Companies Office, Dublin Castle, with particular reference to (i) the number of staff employed, (ii) the delay occasioned to the public when seeking official information, and (iii) the inadequate accommodation available for the public.

From inquiries I have made I am satisfied that a special inspection on the lines suggested by the Deputy is not necessary. I am not aware that any undue delay is occasioned to members of the public when seeking official information in the companies office or that the accommodation available for them is inadequate. The number of staff employed in the office is adequate to cope with the volume of business transacted there.

I should, however, mention that recently the companies office was moved to new premises and the disturbance caused by that move necessarily upset the normal service provided by the office. This disturbance was temporary only and the facilities now available are, in fact, better than those previously afforded.
