Vol. 154 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blacksod Bay Facilities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the President of the Federation of Irish Manufacturers at the recent annual meeting of the federation drew attention to the deep water facilities of Blacksod Bay, County Mayo, in connection with the establishment of any industry that would require the importation of raw materials from the U.S.A., and, if so, if he will draw the attention of persons interested to the suitability of this area for the establishment of a major industry.

I am aware of the suggestion made by the President of the Federation of Irish Manufacturers. Should I receive any industrial proposal in which a site involving deep water facilities is being sought, I shall arrange, through my Department and the Industrial Development Authority, to direct the promoters' attention to Blacksod Bay and other areas having similar facilities. The Deputy will appreciate that it would be for the promoters of any particular project to consider what factors, as well as deep water facilities, would determine the choice of location.
