Vol. 154 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when it is proposed to extend rural electrification to "Devon Road", Templeglantine and Tournafulla areas, County Limerick.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Devon Road area which includes Templeglantine and the Tournafulla area have each been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions but have not so far been selected as their returns did not compare favourably with those for other areas awaiting development in the Tralee district. The areas will be reconsidered by the board in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how their returns then compare with those for other areas still awaiting development in the Tralee district.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification to (a) the Ballinspittle-Garrettstown and (b) the Minane Bridge-Nohoval districts, County Cork.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Ballinspittle area, which includes Garrettstown, has been selected by the board for development under the rural electrification scheme and that the erection of the network in the area has commenced.

I am also informed by the board that the Tracton area, which includes Minane Bridge and Nohoval, has been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions but has not so far been selected as the returns for the area have not compared favourably with those for other areas still awaiting development in the Cork No. 2 district. The area will be reconsidered by the board in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns for the area then compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Cork No. 2 district.

Would it be possible to tell us, in regard to the Minane Bridge-Nohoval districts, what percentage applied and agreed to take it?

The percentage is very low.
