Vol. 155 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Kiosks.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will arrange for the erection of a public telephone kiosk at Timoleague, County Cork.

The provision of a public telephone kiosk at Timoleague cannot be favourably considered at present. There are many larger centres of population which have yet to be provided with kiosks.

There is already a public telephone in the local post office at Timoleague.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will arrange to have a public telephone kiosk erected at Grange, Douglas, County Cork, to serve the needs of this very densely populated district.

The provision of a kiosk at Grange, Douglas, County Cork, would not be warranted by the use likely to be made of it.

Is the Minister aware that, particularly in the case of Grange, Douglas, there are at least 150 to 180 families living there and that the telephone facilities particularly at night time—the nearest approach is the village of Douglas—are totally unsatisfactory and in the case of illness these people are severely handicapped? Will the Minister bring the matter to the attention of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs?

I shall.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the new housing schemes in the area, he will consider the erection of a telephone kiosk at the junction of Duleek Street and Beamore Road, Drogheda.

The provision of a kiosk in this area is already scheduled for the year 1956-57.
