Vol. 155 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the residents of the Kilrossanty-Fews district, County Waterford, desire the early development of rural electrification in the area, and, if so, when the E.S.B. intend to start work in the district.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Kilrossanty area which includes Fews has been considered for selection by the board but has not so far been selected as the returns for the area have not compared favourably with those for other areas still awaiting development in the Waterford district. The area will be reconsidered by the board in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns for the area then compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Waterford district.

I am also informed that the area's prospects of early development would be enhanced if an increased number of householders were willing to accept supply.

And the Minister says that the board says there is no demand.

There is a very small demand in that area.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what is the present position in regard to the extension of rural electrification to the Knock area, Roscrea, County Tipperary.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Derryvale area which includes Knock was recently selected by the board for development under the rural electrification scheme but that before construction work commenced in the area it was found that a number of householders who had signed application forms for supply did not now require it. The board has, however, decided to proceed with the development of the part of the area which was not affected by these withdrawals.
