Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made by the Land Commission towards the acquisition of the McDonnell holding which is situated in the townland of Lisnagabra, Four Roads, County Roscommon.

An appeal by the owner to the appeal tribunal against the Land Commission's decision to acquire these lands was allowed last week.

andMr. J.J. Collins asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission assumed possession of the Carmody land, comprising 30 acres, at Rathcannon, County Limerick, and whether it is proposed to divide this land, and, if so, when.

The Land Commission acquired 48 acres of Mr. Carmody's lands in 1953. Disposal of the lands will be effected as soon as practicable but, as yet, I am unable to suggest when this will be done. It may be necessary to await the outcome of investigations being made in regard to other lands in the locality.

andMr. J.J. Collins asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have any proceedings in progress for the acquisition of the Horgan (or O'Brien) estate, Dromin North, County Limerick, and, if so, what stage such proceedings have reached.

Proceedings for the resumption of the lands of Cornelius Horgan at Dromin North were instituted in 1952 but were terminated when the tenant's petition against resumption was allowed in 1953.

andMr. J.J. Collins asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have any proceedings in progress for the acquisition of the lands of Miss Ryan, Ballingarour, Sherin's Cross, County Limerick, and, if so, what is the present position in the matter.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether 70 acres of land at Shielbawn, Ballymacelligott, County Kerry, have been offered to the Forestry Division of his Department, and, if so, what progress is being made towards the acquisition of these lands.

My Department has received an offer of 80 acres for afforestation purposes in the townland named. The area has been inspected and further investigations are in progress.
