Vol. 156 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Milk Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a tender of 1/10? a gallon for the supply of pasteurised milk to Saint Finbarr's Hospital, Cork, has been received by the South Cork Board of Public Assistance, and, if so, if he will review the retail price of 4/- a gallon at present being charged to domestic consumers in Cork City.

The maximum retail prices for pasteurised milk in the Cork area were fixed on the recommendation of the Prices Advisory Body, made after full consideration of all the facts. While I have no knowledge of the tender mentioned, I would point out that the price quoted is less than the minimum price payable to milk suppliers in the area, to which, of course, must be added the cost of pasteurisation, bottling and distribution.
