Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Allotment of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total area of land finally acquired and the area allotted by the Land Commission in the year ended 31st March, 1956, and the number of parcels allotted (i) in migrations and exchanges, (ii) to ex-employees, (iii) to landless men, (iv) as accommodation plots, (v) as cow plots, and (vi) as additions, and the acreage involved in each class of allotment; further, if he will give similar information for County Meath.

The reply takes the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

Land Acts 1923-54

Total Areas acquired and allotted in the year ended 31st March, 1956

29,884 acres

1,157 acres.

Total Area Allotted

26,719 acres

1,630 acres.

Lands allotted by way of migration and exchange.

477 holdings containing in all 14,746 acres

22 holdings containing in all 969 acres.

Lands allotted to ex-employees

5 holdings containing in all 114 acres

2 holdings containing in all 44 acres.

Lands allotted to landless men

6 parcels containing in all 196 acres

Nil.

Lands allotted as Accommodation Plots

46 parcels containing in all 99 acres

5 parcels containing in all 4 acres.

Lands allotted as cow parks

Nil

Nil.

Lands allotted as enlargements to existing holdings.

718 parcels containing in all 7,447 acres

39 parcels containing in all 593 acres.

Other allotments (viz., to Forestry Division, Trustees of Sportsfields, etc.)

105 parcels containing in all 4,117 acres

1 parcel containing 20 acres

The above figures, which at this stage are provisional, do not include allotments made on estates of the ormer Congested Districts Board; such allotments totalled 8,500 acres (approx.).
