Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vessels for Irish Shipping, Limited.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the number of ships at present being built to the order of Irish Shipping, Limited, (b) the overall length, tonnage and draught (laden) of each ship, and (c) the plans of the company for building additional ships.

Ten ships are at present being built to the order of Irish Shipping, Limited.

Four are deep-sea dry-cargo vessels each of 9,500 tons deadweight, an overall length of 476 feet and a laden draught of 26 feet. Two are deep-sea cargo vessels each of 9,000 tons deadweight, an overall length of 450 feet and a laden draught of 26½ feet. Two are dry-cargo coasters each of 2,000 tons deadweight, an overall length of 259 feet and a laden draught of 15½ feet. The remaining two are deep-sea tankers each of 18,000 tons deadweight, an overall length of 557 feet and a laden draught of 29½ feet.

The company have no immediate plans for the building of further vessels.
