Vol. 157 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim and Sligo Industries.

andS. Flynn asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of Counties Leitrim and Sligo the number of proposals for new industries, or of the substantial expansion of existing ones, which have been submitted to his Department under the Undeveloped Areas Act, 1952, and what further steps he proposes to take to encourage further industrial development in these counties.

I understand that An Foras Tionscal have received 31 proposals for assistance under the Undeveloped Areas Act, 1952, in respect of new industries or the substantial expansion of existing ones in Counties Leitrim and Sligo.

Apart from the facilities available under the Undeveloped Areas Act, the Deputy may take it that all possible assistance and encouragement will be given by me to any interests who submit sound proposals for industrial development for the counties in question. I shall also arrange, through my Department and the Industrial Development Authority, to have these counties brought to the notice of parties who submit industrial proposals to me and who have not already selected a location. The Deputies will, of course, appreciate that the claims of other areas are also brought to the notice of industrial promoters.
