Vol. 157 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trainee Bus Drivers and Conductors.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware that recipients of unemployment benefit or of unemployment assistance who have been called as trainee bus drivers and conductors by C.I.E. have been deprived of benefits during their period of training, and, if so, if he will take the steps necessary to have the position rectified.

Trainee bus drivers and conductors in C.I.E. are not eligible for payment of unemployment benefit or unemployment assistance during their period of training because while undergoing such training they do not satisfy th statutory condition for the receipt of such benefit or assistance which requires an applicant to be available for employment.
