Vol. 157 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leenane Fishing Rights.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the fishing rights on the Delfia River, Leenane, are being offered for sale, and, if so, whether his Department will purchase them for restocking and reletting to our own fishermen.

I have no information that the fishing rights referred to are for sale. As to the second part of the question the only powers I have to acquire fishing rights are those provided under Part V of the Fisheries Act, 1939, for the acquisition of such fisheries as are defined in the Act as "transferable fisheries". It is understood that the fishery in question is used as a rod fishery and would not ordinarily come within the definition of "transferable fisheries".
