Vol. 157 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potato Export Ban.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will remove the ban on the export of ware potatoes to the Six Counties and Great Britain in order that a surplus of such potatoes in County Donegal may be disposed of.

The issue of licences for the export of ware potatoes was suspended in mid-April, as it appeared that there would be a shortage in the home market. When I was sure that our supplies were reasonably safe, I authorised the issue of export licences early in May. There is, thus, no ban on the export of ware potatoes from Donegal now, and I understand that the Irish Potato Marketing Company is affording growers there all possible assistance in the disposal of their surplus stocks.

Will the Minister say when the ban on export to Britain and the Six Counties was lifted?

Early in May.
