Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Payments.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the total amount paid in respect of unemployment assistance for the following classes: (a) adult male, (b) adult male with dependent wife, and (c) adult male with dependent wife and two children, in each of the financial years 1947-48 to 1955-56 inclusive.

Separate figures are not available for the amounts paid to the various classes of recipients of unemployment assistance. The total amount of unemployment assistance paid in each of the financial years 1947-48 to 1955-56, inclusive, is as follows:—

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the full rate of unemployment assistance for (a) an adult male, (b) an adult male with a dependent wife, and (c) an adult male with a dependent wife and two children on 1st January, 1947; what changes have been made since and from what date in each case.

The information required is as follows:—

Rate of unemployment assistance applicable to persons resident in any county borough or in the Borough of Dún Laoghaire

Rate of unemployment assistance applicable to persons resident in any urban area which is not a county borough or the Borough of Dún Laoghaire

Rate of unemployment assistance applicable to persons resident in any urban district which is not an urban area or in any town in which the Town Improvement (Ireland) Act, 1954, is in operation

Rate of unemployment assistance applicable to persons resident in any other place
