Vol. 157 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donabate Girls' School.

asked the Minister for Education when the site for the new girls' school at Donabate was offered to his Department, when it was inspected, and when approval was given for the building of the school.

A site for the erection of the proposed new girls' national school at Portrane, County Dublin, was offered by the reverend manager in January, 1956. The accommodation to be provided in the new school has been determined and my Department awaits the receipt from the Commissioners of Public Works of a report as to the suitability of the site. I understand that the commissioners hope to be in a position to furnish the report shortly.

If the site is regarded as suitable certain preliminary arrangements, which it will take a considerable time to complete, will have to be made before a grant towards the cost of the new school can be sanctioned by my Department. I regret that I am unable, at present, to say when it will be possible to sanction the grant.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, could the Minister say if it would be even possible to have the site inspected to see if it is suitable?

I have an idea that the site has been inspected; if not, it will be inspected within a few days. But my impression was that the site had been inspected and I was waiting for the commissioners' report.
