Vol. 157 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Pier.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether any recent progress has been made in connection with the proposal to provide a pier and shelter at Portaleen, Glengad, County Donegal.

I am informed by the Office of Public Works that the information referred to in my reply to the Deputy's question on 2nd May has not yet been received in that office.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary state when his office was in touch with the county engineer in Donegal in order to elicit this information, and further could the Parliamentary Secretary look into the matter personally and satisfy himself that the information being sought is really necessary and not something that is being put up in order to put this matter on the long finger?

I can assure the Deputy I have made personal inquiries in this matter and I am quite satisfied that the communication addressed on 10th March by the Office of Public Works to Donegal County Council has not yet been replied to.

Further arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, has anything been done since my last question and have any steps been taken in this matter?

Yes. The Office of Public Works has, I understand, been in telephonic communication with Donegal County Council on the matter and have asked for a reply, which has not yet come.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary satisfied that the information so sought is really necessary and that it is not a lot of humbug in order to put this thing on the long finger, because my information is that that is what it is?

If the information was not necessary, I am quite sure the Office of Public Works would not ask for it.
