Vol. 157 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Racing Board Deputation.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he received a deputation from the Racing Board to discuss its problems arising out of the recent Budget, and, if so, when; and if he will state his reasons for receiving the deputation.

I received a deputation from the Racing Board on 19th May, 1956. I referred to this deputation, and to some of the matters discussed, when I spoke in the Dáil on 23rd May (Dáil Debates, Volume 157, No. 6—columns 871-872). The deputation also wished to discuss with me the administrative measures which they proposed should be taken to enable them to meet the liability for stamp duty placed on the board by the recent Budget. I have statutory functions under the Totalisator Act, 1929, and under the Racing Board and Racecourses Act, 1945, which made it necessary for the Racing Board to acquaint me of the measures they have in mind.
