Vol. 157 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Mineral Deposits.

andT. Lynch asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that deposits of zinc and copper were previously worked in Bonmahon, County Waterford and, whether in view of the recent mineral exploration drive, he has drawn the attention of some of the mining companies to the mineral potentialities of this area, and, if so, with what results.

I am aware that there are at Bonmahon, County Waterford, deposits of copper, with some zinc, which were worked in the past. Some time ago, I received proposals for exploratory work in the area and, following a careful examination of these proposals, I decided to grant the applicants, subject to certain terms and conditions, facilities under the Minerals Development Act, 1940, in respect of the Bonmahon deposits. Negotiations with the applicants concerning these terms and conditions are proceeding at present.
