Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Athlone Bridge.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the date on which his Department issued the bridge Order in respect of the Athlone bridge to the Westmeath County Council; (b) the cost of preparing plans for (i) a fixed bridge, and (ii) a swivel arch; (c) the cost of erecting (i) a swivel arch, and (ii) a fixed bridge; and (d) what expenditure will be involved in connection with the road at the bridgehead.

(a) The bridge Order was made on 16th March last.

(b) This information is not available in the Department.

(c) The most recent estimates supplied by the county council for bridge construction are £16,000 for a fixed span and £33,000 for an opening span.

(d) The work proposed does not involve any substantial road improvement. The cost of any road work contemplated is included in the foregoing figures.
