Vol. 158 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Achill Pier.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that by ministerial Order a jetty was removed from Darby's Point Pier, Achill, during the last emergency and that it was never replaced, and, if so, whether he proposes to restore it.

I am informed that the Office of Public Works dismantled the timber jetty extension of Darby's Point Pier in 1946 when its condition had become dangerous. As regards its replacement the Mayo County Council were asked by my Department in 1947 to furnish a plan and estimate of cost in connection with their proposal for the construction of another jetty. These particulars have not yet been received and no further steps can be taken in the matter by my Department without them.
