Vol. 158 No. 9

Questions— Oral Answers. - Mayo School.

asked the Minister for Education whether it has been decided to enlarge the existing school at Doohoma, County Mayo, or to erect a new school, and when work is likely to begin.

As intimated to the Deputy in reply to his previous question on the 23rd February, 1956, the reverend manager offered some additional ground for inclusion in the site of the present national school at Doohoma with a view to enabling the school to be extended. The Commissioners of Public Works having fully considered the case have advised the Department that the proposal to modernise the existing school and to have an additional classroom provided would prove expensive and unsatisfactory and that the proper solution would be to erect a new school on a new large site to cater for all the pupils. The Department is in communication with the reverend manager in the matter.
