Questions— Oral Answers. - Recommendations of Prices Advisory Body.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in respect of the inquiries held by the Prices Advisory Body during the year ended 31st March, 1956, into the prices of bacon, meat cubes, cast iron baths, cement, pottery, rubber soles and heels, and springs and heel tips, he will state (a) the amount of the increase sought in respect of each commodity as specified in each application, (b) the increase recommended by the Prices Advisory Body in each case, and (c) the amount of the increase sanctioned by him in each case.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement setting out the information requested by the Deputy.

The following is the statement:—

Commodity

Amount of the increase in price sought by the manufacturer and/or distributor

Amount of the increase recommended by the Prices Advisory Body

Amount of the increase sanctioned by the Minister for Industry and Commerce

Bacon

During the year ended 31st March, 1956 the maximum retail prices of bacon were varied 15 times by directions under the Bacon (Maximum Prices) Order, 1955 made on the recommendation of the Prices Advisory Body.
