Vol. 159 No. 6

Statement by Deputy.

Deputy Vivion de Valera gave notice that he wished to make a short statement.

Major de Valera

In view of a reported statement by a barrister in court, I understand to-day, which stated or implied that a Deputy of this House was guilty of contempt of court in the due and proper discharge of his duties as a member of Dáil Éireann, will you, Sir, of course, in your absolute discretion, refer the matter to the Committee of Procedure and Privileges, in order to uphold the constitutional rights and privileges of this House?

I have allowed the Deputy to make his statement. His question will be duly considered to see if any action is called for on my part.

Major de Valera

May I respectfully, in that connection, mention paragraph 10 of Article 15 of the Constitution and paragraph 12 as well?

All the relevant Articles and anything bearing on the matter will be duly considered.
