Vol. 160 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade Loans Acts Guarantees.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the banks are no longer prepared to accept his guarantee for the purposes of the Trade Loans Acts, and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to prevent the banks from rendering the Acts nugatory.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative and accordingly the second part of the question does not arise.

Mr. Lemass

Is the Minister aware of any recent case where his guarantee was not taken up by a bank?

That is not the question I was asked.

Mr. Lemass

I know, but answer that one.

The question I was asked was if I was aware that the banks are no longer prepared to accept my guarantee for the purposes of the Trade Loans Acts. That is not so.

Is the Minister not aware of a specific case——

I am aware that Deputy Flanagan was handling a case as a solicitor and that that is the one he is troubled about.

That is where he was refused by the bank.
