Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commercial Bank Accounts, External Assets and Loans.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount of (a) the current accounts, other than Government, and (b) the deposit accounts, other than Government, of the commercial banks at the latest available date and at the nearest comparable date last year.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount of the gross external assets of the commercial banks at the nearest available date and at the nearest comparable date last year.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount of the loans and advances of the commercial banks at the nearest available date and at the nearest comparable date last year.

The figures for current and deposit accounts and loans and advances relate to business within the State. The figures of £226.4 million and £225.9 million for gross external assets include assets held against bank liabilities outside the State of £132.8 million and £140.1 million respectively, leaving net external assets at £93.6 million and £85.8 million.
