asked the Minister for Finance what has been the total cost to the Central Fund of the various awards made by the Civil Service Arbitration Board and of increases granted under the conciliation procedure since the arbitration board was first set up, including the total cost of consequential increases granted to classes not covered by the conciliation and arbitration scheme.

The present annual cost to the Exchequer of increases in Civil Service pay and allowances following from the operation of the conciliation and arbitration machinery is approximately £4,485,000.
