Vol. 160 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Advisory Councils and Similar Bodies.

Major de Valera

asked the Taoiseach if he will enumerate and name, stating the purpose and function of each one, the several advisory or consultative councils, commissions, committees and similar bodies appointed by the Government or by him since 1st June, 1954.

One such body, namely the Atomic Energy Committee, has been appointed by the Government since the 1st June, 1954. The Committee's function is to advise the Government on certain matters concerning the peaceful uses of atomic energy.

No such body has been appointed by the Taoiseach since the 1st June, 1954.

Major de Valera

Is the Taoiseach aware that I put down one question to the Taoiseach about the consultative bodies and could the Taoiseach say why it was necessary to break up my question into a separate question for each of the Ministers, as apparently was done?

That was done by the Ceann Comhairle and his staff, carrying out, as I understand it, Standing Orders.

Major de Valera

Does that mean that the Taoiseach does not answer such questions for the Government as a whole?

Only where the Government as a whole is involved in a question does the Taoiseach answer the question.
