Vol. 161 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Quota Restrictions, Tariffs and Duties.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the percentage of imports into this country which are subject to (a) quota restrictions, (b) duties in the nature of protective tariffs, and (c) duties the primary purpose of which is the raising of revenue.

Official statistics are not ordinarily compiled on the basis indicated in the Deputy's question. A special analysis of imports in appropriate selected periods shows, however, that the percentages by value of imports subject to quota restriction, protective duties and revenue duties are of the order of 1.5 per cent., 12.5 per cent. and 20 per cent. respectively. Certain goods are subject both to quota restriction and protective duties.
