Vol. 161 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchasing Power in 1939.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state what income in 1939 was equivalent in purchasing power to an income of £600 to-day, based on the consumer price index on the latest available date.

On the basis of the Consumer Price Index Number it is estimated that an income of £600 a year after direct taxation would purchase at present at retail prices the same quantum of goods and services as a corresponding net income of £247 in 1939.
