Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Milling Statistics.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the period 1st January, 1956, to 1st January, 1957 (a) the total quantity of wheat milled in Irish mills, and the average cost per ton of such wheat, (b) the total quantity of wheaten offals produced by Irish mills and the average price per ton charged for such offals, and (c) the total quantity of wheaten offals imported and the price per ton of such offals.

During the period 1st January, 1956 to 1st January, 1957, 423,390 tons of wheat were milled by Irish flour mills at an average cost on mill floor of £34 3s. 7d. per ton. The total quantity of wheaten offals produced in the same period was 100,450 tons. The average ex-mill price charged for such offals was £25 10s. per ton. During the same period the total quantity of wheaten offals imported was 33,226 tons and the average price of such offals was £24 10s. per ton c.i.f. The price of the imported offals is exclusive of discharge and delivery costs, which are estimated at about £1 15s. per ton.
