Vol. 161 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tralee Flooding.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department received proposals from Kerry County Council for a grant for the relief of flooding in the central and Rock Street areas of Tralee town and if so, if he will state whether and when it is proposed to allocate money for the carrying out of this much needed work.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the question of a grant under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949.

A request was received on the 9th ultimo from the Kerry County Council enquiring what grant from State sources would be available towards a scheme for the relief of flooding in Tralee.

No recent scheme or technical report on the matter has been received from either the county council or the urban district council, who are the local authorities who might be involved. I understand, however, that a consultant was appointed by the county council in February, 1955.

The question of allocating a grant does not, therefore, at present arise.
