Vol. 161 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Books in Irish.

asked the Minister for Education if, in order to avoid the confusion at present existing among the schoolchildren, he will determine that henceforward books in the Irish language for use in the schools shall be printed exclusively either in Roman or in Gaelic characters.

I am not aware that there is any confusion among school-children arising out of the use of both Roman and Gaelic type in school textbooks in Irish.

As both types of characters are widely used I consider it to be to the advantage of pupils to be enabled to read either type with ease.
