Vol. 161 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Vocational School.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received a request from the Kildare County Council for a loan for the purpose of erecting a vocational school at Kildare; and when it is hoped to make money available to finance this necessary work.

The position in relation to the erection by County Kildare Vocational Education Committee of a vocational school at Kildare has not altered since the committee was advised in November, 1956, that the money then available for vocational school buildings had been fully hypothecated up to the end of the financial year 1957-58 for projects already completed or then being built or for which tenders had then been accepted and that further projects could not be approved for the time being. I cannot yet say what projects it may be possible to authorise in the financial year 1958-59 but the position in County Kildare will be considered when projects for that year are being determined.

I might explain that the proposal of Kildare County Council to raise a loan for the purpose of making a grant to the vocational education committee for the erection of the school will ultimately require the consent of the Minister for Local Government.
