Vol. 161 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Charges at Frontier Posts.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider removing the 2/– charge for "requests" for motorists at all frontier posts.

The attendance of staff at frontier posts for the clearance of motor cars after ordinary official hours involves the State in considerable expense and to enable this late service to be maintained without serious burden to the general taxpayer a charge of 2/– is made for each car cleared after 9 p.m. I do not think this charge can be regarded as unreasonable in the circumstances and I am, therefore, unable to accede to the Deputy's request for its removal.
