Vol. 161 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duty on Stout.

asked the Minister for Finance what is the exact amount of the increase in beer duty provided for by the Budget on a pint of stout.

Beer duty is charged by reference to a standard specific gravity of 1055 degrees and when the gravity is higher or lower than this figure, the duty chargeable varies proportionately. The increase in the duty provided for in the recent Budget is equivalent to 0.875d. on a pint of stout of 1055 degrees. I cannot state the amount of the increase on a pint of stout as sold at present, as this varies for the products of different brewers.
