Vol. 161 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Beer and Lager.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the quantity of (a) beer, and (b) lager imported in each of the last five years.

Imports of beer in terms of standard barrels amounted to 8,564 barrels in 1952; 10,180 barrels in 1953; 13,104 barrels in 1954; 18,527 barrels in 1955, and 15,149 barrels in 1956. These figures relate to all forms of beer including ale, stout, porter and lager.

Imports of lager in terms of standard barrels amounted to 3,094 barrels in 1952; 4,426 barrels in 1953, and 6,086 barrels in 1954. I regret that comparable figures for 1955 and 1956 have not been compiled, but they are being tabulated specially for the Deputy and I will arrange for them to be sent to him as soon as they become available.
