Vol. 162 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon Stockmaster.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the present position in regard to the post of stockmaster in County Roscommon.

There are present two stockmasters in this county. They were appointed by my predecessor on 14th March, 1957.

May we take it that the work of the Land Commission has expended to such a degree in recent times in County Roscommon that it was felt the appointment of two stockmasters was justifiable and that one would not be sufficient to do the work at present?

The question relates to the amount of land on hands, which I think could have been administered by one stock manager, but we intend to take special steps to reduce very materially the amount of land on hands and the need for stock managers for that purpose will diminish very much within the next 12 months.

Does that suggest the previous position is likely to be restored?

I am unable to say exactly what the position will be.
