Vol. 162 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Wheat.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of statements that the reduction in the price of wheat had reduced farmers' incomes by £1,800,000, he will state why the price has not been increased this year.

Mr. Moylan

When this Government took office most farmers had already made arrangements for the sowing of wheat in the light of the prices previously announced. It was decided, therefore, to make no changes in these prices in respect of the 1957 crop. I may add that an announcement regarding wheat prices for the 1958 crop will be made in good time to enable farmers to prepare for the autumn sowing season.

The Minister will apparently not try to take credit for the excellent crop already in the ground.
