Vol. 163 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dismissal of C.I.E. Employees.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that two C.I.E. employees who had been sentenced under the Offences Against the State Acts have now been dismissed by reason of their failure to sign an undertaking; and if he will state whether this action was taken by C.I.E. on general recommendations or instructions from his Department.

The answer to both parts of the Deputy's question is in the negative.

I have no function in regard to the employment of staff by C.I.E. The Board of C.I.E. like other statutory boards has been informed of the Government's decision that the restoration to their employment of civil servants and employees of local authorities and other local bodies who have been convicted of offences under the Offences Against the State Act should be conditional on the signature of an undertaking in the terms decided by the Government.
