Vol. 163 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Road Freight Department Manager.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been directed to appeared recently in the daily newspapers inviting applications for the position of road freight department manager; and if, in view of the present serious financial position of C.I.E., and impending changes in the entire system, he will request the board not to proceed further for the present with the proposed appointment.

Under the provisions of the Transport Act, 1950, the staffing of C.I.E. is a matter for the board to determine. In view, however, of present circumstances affecting internal transport generally, I asked the board to avoid recruitment to their administrative staffs for the time being and I have been assured that this will be done.
