Vol. 164 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in Cork.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the present position in regard to the extension of rural electrification to the Nohoval-Ballinaclashet-Belgooly district, County Cork.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Tracton rural area, which includes the districts of Nohoval, Ballinaclashet and Belgooly, has been considered for selection on a number of occasions but has not, so far, been selected as its returns did not compare favourably with those of other areas awaiting development in the board's Cork No. 2 district. The area will be reconsidered in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns then compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Cork No. 2 district.

I am informed by the board that work under the rural electrification scheme is at present in progress in Belgooly village, which is included in a different E.S.B. rural area.
