Vol. 164 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in Cork.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the rural electrification scheme will be extended to the Dunmanway rural area, County Cork.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that there is no area proposed for development under the rural electrification scheme known as the Dunmanway rural area. Dunmanway town has had an urban supply of electricity for some years. Of the rural areas immediately surrounding the town of Dunmanway, those of Drinagh, Teenah and Ballineen have been considered for selection on a number of occasions but have not, so far, been selected as their returns did not compare favourably with those for other areas awaiting development in the board's Cork No. 2 district The areas will be reconsidered in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns then compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Cork No. 2 district.

I am also informed that, in the countryside west of Dunmanway, there are two proposed rural areas, tentatively named Togher and Coolkelure. So far no definite arrangements have been made by the board for carrying out a canvass of the residents of these areas.
