Vol. 164 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in Kilkenny.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the present position with regard to the extension of an electricity supply to the following areas in County Kilkenny, viz., (a) Coan, (b) Woodsgift, and (c) Lisdowney, and if he will indicate when residents in these areas may expect supply.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Coan (or Coone), Woodsgift and Lisdowney rural areas have been considered for selection on a number of occasions but have not, so far, been selected as their returns did not compare favourably with those of other areas awaiting development in the board's Portlaoise district. The areas will be reconsidered in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns then compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Portlaoise district.

Could the Minister give a reply to the second part of the question, namely, when residents in these areas may expect supply?

That is entirely dependent on the result of the next selection of areas in accordance with the returns received from the canvass.
