asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the total number of men employed by the Cork County Council on road construction and maintenance at the latest available date, and at the corresponding dates in 1955 and 1956.

The total number of men employed on road and bridge works (including maintenance) at 30th September, 1957, was 2,002. The numbers at the corresponding dates in 1955 and 1956 were 2,402 and 2,047 respectively. These figures do not include persons employed on schemes financed from the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote.
