Vol. 164 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Mayo Electricity Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if a decision has been reached by the E.S.B. to extend rural electrification in the near future to Ballycroy parish and the Glenamoy-Pollathomas districts.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Ballycroy area has been considered for selection under the rural electrification scheme on a number of occasions but has not, so far, been selected as its returns did not compare favourably with those for other areas awaiting development in the board's Galway district. The area will be reconsidered in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns then compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Galway district.

I am also informed by the board that an official canvass of the Glenamoy area which includes Pollathomas has commenced and it is expected that it will be completed about the end of the year. The area will be considered for selection in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the board's Sligo district.
