Vol. 164 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Insurance Rates for Commercial Travellers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that commercial travellers are charged an extra 50 per cent. to insure their vehicles; and if he will state what evidence was put forward at the recent inquiry by the Accident Offices Association to sustain their claim to the extra 50 per cent., and what recommendation, if any, the Prices Advisory Body made concerning the extra charge.

I am aware that commercial travellers are charged rates for motor insurance that are 50 per cent. higher than the rates which apply to ordinary private motor car insurance. The classification of risks is a matter of detailed insurance operation in which I do not think it proper that. I should intervene. Classifications, I am advised, are based, inter alia, on claims experience.
