Vol. 164 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electoral Act, 1923: Position of Civil Servants.

asked the Minister for Finance whether there is any statutory or other definition of a person either temporarily or permanently in the Civil Service as referred to in Section 51, sub-section (3) (c) of the Electoral Act, 1923, and, if not, if he will introduce legislation to remedy this omission in view of the uncertainty at present existing with regard to the position of certain employees of State Departments.

I am informed by the Minister for Local Government that he is not aware of any difficulties having arisen from the absence of a definition of the Civil Service applicable to the section referred to by the Deputy. He does not propose to introduce legislation to define the Civil Service for the purpose of that section.
