Vol. 164 No. 9

Written Answers. - Agricultural Wages and Holidays Acts.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that agricultural workers are deprived of the protection of the Agricultural Wages and Holidays Acts because their employers are not agricultural employers as defined in the Acts, and if he will introduce legislation to amend the Acts so as to include all workers employed at agricultural work.

There may be a few very exceptional cases of workers to whom the Agricultural Wages and Holidays Acts do not apply. I am informed by the Agricultural Wages Board that the complaints they have received in relation to such cases have been very rare. As I see the position, the introduction of legislation as suggested would not be warranted by the circumstances.
